Progress Update 18-05-2020


New

In this latest update there are a few new buildings and products. The Dairy Farm, which produces milk for the Dairy Factory, which produces cheese for the Supermarket. Another new building is the Natural Gas Plant, this produces natural gas, but at the moment you can’t deliver that to anywhere at the moment. Later this will be used for producing glass, which will for instance be used for bottles, in which can be put milk, water and apple juice. 

A new feature in Supply Chain Tycoon is the ability to sell you vehicles. This will come in handy, when there will be limited space for your vehicles in the future. When you sell a vehicle you will get 80% of the new price times the percentage of the current technical state of the vehicle. So before you sell your vehicle, see if it could be worth it to repair your vehicle. 

Updated / Edited

The most obvious change is the city, it now has more houses and a whole new layout. Another change connected to that is, that the houses now have spawning points for the traffic, in stead of them being at some parking lots. A spawn point will check if it is being run through by a vehicle and will then not spawn a new vehicle, but it can happen that a vehicle spawns just in front of you, so watch out! 

Other things that are edited in this update are that the refuelling and repairing of your vehicle now will take time (just as in real life). This works now in the same way as it already did for your employees. 

Under the hood / Fixed

One bug I noticed in the previous build of Supply Chain Tycoon, was that when entering the building screen while in the car, you could still move the camera with the mouse, which was pretty annoying. This has been fixed now. 

Furthermore there are some changes I have made to make it easier for me to edit the map/city. I now use Unity’s tile map system to place the roads, and on the intersections I have placed a toggle with which I can place or remove traffic lights. These are things I can do in the editor, so these are not in the game itself. 

Another thing I have done under the hood, is refactor the vehicle scripts of the traffic vehicles. They had their own (big) script, but it had a lot of similarities with the vehicle scripts I use for the player vehicles. So I have now changed that, so the traffic and the player vehicles work with mostly the same scripts, which is more efficient.
